Experience the peacefulness of a Zen rock garden at Tofukuji Temple, get a taste of daily life in a local neighbourhood, walk through the famous red torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, and discover Kyoto's geisha culture in Gion.
Fushimi Inari Taisha is the most important Shinto shrine in Japan dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari's messengers, so you'll find many fox statues all throughout the shrine grounds.
The shrine is famous for its thousands of brightly coloured, vermillion torii gates, which line a number of hiking trails behind the shrine's main buildings.
