Kakegawa Castle

The Kakegawa castle, located in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka prefecture is a beautifully restored historic site that offers a glimpse into Japan's feudal past. The castle was built during the late Edo period, then was largely damaged after the Great Ansei earthquake in 1855.

This was the first castle in Japan to be rebuilt using traditional methods and wooden materials.
