Rugby World Cup 2019

This year 2019, is the first year to hold the Rugby World Cup in Asia, in the land of the rising sun! Japan has opened up various stadiums ready for our Wallabies to come back from a 20 year drought and take back a victory! The Rugby World Cup 2019 is held from the 20th of September to the 2nd of November all over Japan.  Australia or our Wallabies will be playing in Sapporo at Sapporo Dome Stadium, Tokyo at the Tokyo Dome Stadium, Oita at Oita Stadium and Shizuoka at Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa

 

So what can you do around these areas or stadiums? 

 

Sapporo Dome

1. Sapporo Dome Stadium, Sapporo, Japan 

 

Australia will be playing against Fiji at Sapporo Dome Stadium on the 21st of September, 1:45PM Japan local time. This is the beginning match to start off your rugby journey and get you or your customers fired up to explore more. 

Sapporo is the capital city of Hokkaido and has many activities for you to take part in during your free time. 

 

If you love beer, you may want to check out Sapporo Beer Museum, as it is Japan's only beer museum! Taste some of Japan's high quality beer and learn about the history of how it is made.

A fantastic activity for you to take part in is a day trip to the stunning flowers! 

Our Hokkaido Day Trip takes you to Furano (well known for Tomita lavender farm), Biei for the stunning Shirogane deep blue pond and a 7 hectare flower field featuring tulips, lupine, lavender, dahlia, salvia, sunflowers and Japanese anemone. Then have a curry lunch together at a farm house before heading back to Sapporo for the night.

2. Tokyo Dome Stadium, Tokyo, Japan 

Located in Chofu area of Tokyo, Tokyo Dome Stadium will be the Wallabies, 2nd spot on the map. They will play against Wales on the 29th of September around 4:45PM local Japan time. 

 

Looking for something to do around Chofu before the match? 

 

Check out Tokyo's second oldest Buddhist temple in the city,  Jindaiji Temple. Jindaiji Temple has a historical significance in this tiny town that is great for a rest and relax before a long night of rugby. Taste the delicious local soba noodles in the old traditional restaurants a great tasting entrance to Jindaiji Temple. Stroll through the stunning botanic gardens and see the two main buildings. Smell the roses and take in the fresh air before heading back to the stadium to enjoy the rugby festivities.

The next stop on the Wallabies rugby journey is Oita! 

 

3. Oita Stadium, Oita, Japan 

Oita Stadium will be the third stadium on the map for the Wallabies rugby tour within the land of the rising sun. Australia will play Uruguay on Saturday, October the 5th at 2:15PM Japan Local time at Oita Stadium, Oita, Japan (the western part of Japan in Kyushu). 

 

Thinking about what you can do in Oita besides rugby? 

 

Oita is a famous area for onsens or hot springs as well as natural scenery. Oita was historically a trading port for Portugese traders and the Ming dynasty. There a many natural mountains, seaside villages and towns surrounded by onsens.

 

The most famous places in Oita are Beppu Onsen (Japan's capital city of hot springs) Yufuin (rural yet trendy hot spring town near Beppu), Kunisaki Peninsula, Kuju Mountains (volcanic range) and Usuki (unique stone Buddhas). Visit these places while you stay around this area and watch our honourary Wallabies. 

 

One of these very famous onsen villages that we can offer to you or our agent's customers as a day tour is the Oita Sights: Beppu City Hotspring Tour. 

 

Beppu Onsen

 

Beppu Onsen is a unique hot spring village with a variety of hell style onsens. We can arrange a tour guide that will take you to the famous Umi Jigoku and Kamado Jigoku as well as allowing you to view an interesting cooking method of hell steaming. 

 

Make your way from Oita Station to JR Beppu Station to begin this half day tour. Stop by Umijiogku (known as sea hell) / Kamado Jigoku (cooking pot hell). Take in the pond of boiling blue water and spacious gardens at Umijigoku and make your way to cooking pot hell to taste the hot spring water and enjoy the hand and foot baths at Kamado Jigoku. Then try your hand at steam cooking at Jigokumushi Kobo Steam Cooking Centre

 

Definitely a great way to enjoy a unique, interesting and innovative place in the heart of Oita in between your rugby games!
